RETROTV
Every retro console on your Android TV, and not one emulator to install. RetroTV is a TV browser built for the sites that run NES, SNES, Genesis, Game Boy, N64, PlayStation, arcade and DOS games right in the page.
Pick a site with the remote, plug in a controller and play. It handles the parts a phone browser gets wrong on a TV: a real pointer for the remote, controllers that reach the game, ads that don't hijack the screen, and full screen that actually fills the TV. ▮
Game sites 16 BUILT IN · ADD ANY
The home screen is a grid of game sites in their own colours, filtered by Arcade, Consoles, DOS or Archive, with your favourites first and a "Continue playing" row of where you left off. Add any other site with the + card.
Hold OK on any card for its options: favourite, install as its own app, hide, desktop or mobile view, ad blocking, controller mode, or make it the site RetroTV opens on.
Remote & controllers NO MOUSE NEEDED
Web emulators expect a mouse and a keyboard. RetroTV gives the remote a real pointer and gives controllers straight to the game, with up to four players.
The remote
| D-pad | Moves the pointer; it speeds up while held. Push against an edge to scroll. |
| OK | Click. Hold OK and move to drag. |
| Hold OK / Menu | Quick menu with every control. |
| Back | Previous page; leaves full screen; exits. |
| CH+ CH− | Scroll a page at a time. |
| Play/Pause | Switch to D-pad keys: arrows and Enter go to the game, so you can play with just the remote. |
Controllers
- Auto mode (the default): the pad acts as a gamepad while a game reads gamepads, and as keys for "press any key" screens, decided press by press.
- Gamepad API in every frame. Your pad appears as a standard gamepad to the page and to emulators inside iframes, even on TVs whose WebView doesn't support gamepads.
- Keyboard mode for games that only read the keyboard: each button sends a key you choose (arrows, Z/X/A/S, Enter, Shift, F-keys…).
- Both at once, chosen per site and remembered.
- Analog sticks, triggers and hat switches; up to 4 controllers.
- Select + Start opens the menu. Pad moves pointer lets the controller browse: stick moves, A clicks, B goes back, shoulders scroll.
Windowed or full screen FILL THE TV
Windowed
A slim toolbar stays on top with back, reload, home, the address, blocked-ad count and input mode. The pointer can click it.
Full screen
The page gets the whole TV. Sites' own full-screen buttons work too, and Back leaves them.
Focus game
One button finds the game (canvas, emulator frame, Flash/Ruffle player) and blows it up to fill the screen at the right aspect ratio, hiding everything else.
Built-in game player NEW IN 1.1
Many game sites run their games in EmulatorJS, and their pages often stall waiting on ads. When a site starts an EmulatorJS game, RetroTV takes the game and plays it in its own full-screen player instead. The site stays your catalogue; the game runs clean.
Playing
- Full screen from the first frame, with your controller as player 1, or the remote when no controller is connected.
- Game files download once and are kept on the TV, so replays start fast.
- If a game won't start, RetroTV retries with compatibility cores, then offers Play on the site instead.
- Turn the player off per site to always use the site's own emulator.
Game menu
Press Back, Menu or Select + Start:
- Save and load in 4 slots, restart, fast-forward, mute.
- The full EmulatorJS menu, driven with the pointer.
- A Recent games row on the home screen, and Play a ROM file for games you've downloaded.
Ad blocking that leaves games alone PER SITE
Free game sites are full of pop-unders and "click anywhere" redirects. RetroTV blocks those without touching what you came for.
What's blocked
- Ad servers, pop-under networks and trackers, at the network level.
- Pop-up tabs and automatic redirects to other sites.
- Leftover empty ad boxes (optional).
- Links that try to open other apps or the Play Store.
What never is
- The page you open, and the site's own menus and links.
- Game files and emulator code (archive.org, EmulatorJS, js-dos and the common CDNs are on an allow-list).
- Anything you want: blocked pop-ups wait in the menu under Open blocked pop-up, and one switch turns blocking off for a site.
- Add your own rules (hosts-file and
||host^lines work).
Install sites as their own apps ON YOUR TV'S HOME
Choose Install as app and the site gets its own tile in your TV's apps row, with its own banner. It opens straight into the game site in its own window with its own sign-ins and saves, kept apart from the others. These are the real tiles:
Sites you add yourself can be pinned to launchers that support shortcuts, or opened as an app window from their card.
Userscripts, one click away GREASY FORK BUILT IN
Find
- Open Userscripts from the menu and the scripts made for the site you're on are already listed.
- Search Greasy Fork by keyword, or tap a quick search: ad block, anti-adblock, fullscreen, gamepad, dark mode.
- Tapping a
.user.jslink anywhere offers to install it.
Manage
- Turn scripts on or off, remove them, or check them all for updates.
- Scripts run in every frame at their
@run-attime, with the commonGM_*helpers. - One switch turns all scripts off.
Emulators & downloads NO PLAY STORE
If you'd rather run a native emulator too, RetroTV fetches the newest official build and installs it, with no Play Store needed. Downloads land in Downloads/RetroTV. APKs install with one press, and ROMs play in the built-in player or open in the emulator you choose.
Game sources
Shortcuts to the Internet Archive's software collections and to homebrew libraries (PDRoms, Homebrew Hub, itch.io NES / Game Boy / Genesis homebrew).
Direct link
Paste any file link (APK, ROM, zip, BIOS) and it downloads. Files a page creates itself, such as emulator save states, are saved too.

What's new
- v1.1: built-in game player for EmulatorJS sites (full screen, save slots, fast-forward, cached game files, Recent games, Play a ROM file). Games that hung waiting on blocked ads now start: ad and analytics scripts get harmless stand-ins. Auto controller mode. Desktop and TV views now look different (1280 px vs 640 px wide). Button labels no longer get cut off. More video-ad hosts blocked.
- v1.0: first release. 16 game sites, remote pointer and D-pad mode, Gamepad API and keyboard controller modes, Focus game, ad, pop-up and redirect blocking, desktop/mobile view per site, installable site apps with sandboxed sign-ins, userscripts with Greasy Fork search, emulator downloads, themes, backup and restore.
The fine print
RetroTV is a browser. The games, emulators and ads belong to the websites it opens, which are independent third-party sites and not affiliated with RetroTV; what's available and legal to play depends on each site and on where you live. Emulator apps download from their own developers.
